Trouble

"okay." she nodded and blinked back her tears. "Go."

He nodded and kissed all the kids on their cheeks, then left the room...going back to Lacy's room. He let out a sigh before he went back in there and nodded to himself a bit, stepping into the room now. "Lace?"

"What," she responded lazily, back in bed and under the covers now.

He didn't go over to her. He put his hands in his pockets and looked down. "I'm sorry." he said. "About before, about what happened months ago, about my attitude...I'm just sorry for everything I've ever done in the past to make you want to leave."

She turned over to him slowly. "Why are you doing this?"

"Because Lacy, I took a vow with the woman I love and in those vows, I said til death do us part. I meant it. I'm not letting you go until the day I die. We've been together through all the bad and good times and we're not ending like this." he told her. "In marriages, yeah...we hit a lot of obstacles and there are times when you hate me and I'll think you're driving me crazy, but we work it out. It's what we're supposed to do."

"And you're not holding on to this just because you don't want to be like your Dad?" She asked him. Seemed silly, but he's said it to her several times that he didn't want to fail in his marriage like his Dad did.

He shook his head. "I am ten times the man that my Dad was. My marriage has nothing to do with him. I'm holding on because I want to be with you for as long as I live. I miss you and I love you."

Lacy sat up in bed to look at him. "I miss you, too."

He smiled a little. "That's...that's really good to hear.' he told her. "....can you come home now, please?"

"Do you really think we can move past this?"

He thought it over and nodded. "I know we're not exactly going to be how we were, right now...but I am more than willing to move past this, if you are."

She sighed and nodded. "Yes."

He nodded. "Then I think we'll be fine."

"I've been.." she sighed and laid back down. "Miserable."

"You and I both." he said and figured he would get closer and sit on the edge of her bed. "How long have you been drinking for?" he asked. He wasn't going to interrogate her or anything, he was just curious.

"The night I moved into the guest room."

Now he knew he was the worst husband ever. He was the reason for her drug problem last year and now this. "Jesus, Lace." he sighed as he ran a hand through his hair. "I'm so sorry."

He was the reason for her drug problem last year? The complications from her last pregnancy was the reason for it. She frowned a little, confused. "Why are you sorry?"

But he knocked her up, duhhh, lol. "Because I'm stupid and should have realized that things with us weren't going so great these past couple of months. You were right, I walked around thinking everything was great and I didn't even bother trying to fix anything." he said.

She sighed. "I didn't do this so you could beat yourself up, Phil. And I said most of that stuff just so you'd let me leave." she admitted.

"...but why? I thought we were really good." he said. "We just had our anniversary and had a great Christmas. It was just so...confusing and out of nowhere."

"I don't know." She covered her face. "I'm just fucked up. I don't know."

"You're not." He said. "We'll work everything out though."

"I am." She frowned. "I always screw up a good thing. I don't know what's wrong with me."
