Another One

The doctor led him to Allison's room and opened the door to a sight that he did not have to witness when he first left the room.

Allison was acting very out of character, she was generally the more calm and happy child, but she woke up in some big white and cold hospital room with a tube in her nose, her throat was still hurting a little (not as bad as before) and she felt weird when she woke up. She didn't know where she was above all else, she didn't see her parents.

Now she was in the little bed, crying her little eyes out and pulling at her hair. "I want daddy! I want mommy! I want Bam Bam!" she'd cried. The nurses tried to calm her, tried to give her juice, candy, a teddy bear, anything they could to make her happy but she wanted nothing to do with it. She heard the door and assumed that it was another "stupid docker," as she pronounced it, but took a chance and looked up to see her daddy. "Daddy," she cried and reached for him from the bed.

Phil was surprised to see Allison acting out like that, but could he blame her? He went up to her and hugged her as he reached her. "I'm here." he said as he kissed the top of her head.

"I go home with you," she cried as she wrapped her arms around his neck as tightly as she could.

"You can come home soon." he said, holding her tightly. "We have to make sure you're okay."

"I fine." Allison protested.

"Well we have to make sure."

"No, no NO!" Allison protested, her voice shaky and hoarse from how sore she was, before she started to cry hysterically on his shoulder again.

"Okay, okay." he said as he kissed the top of her head and rubbed her back. "Let's just wait for mommy to get here."

"I don't want mommy, I want to go home," she continued to cry.

"She's coming here though. Once she gets here, we'll tell the doctors we are taking you home."

One of the nurses overheard. "Um sir... she has to stay overnight per the doctor's orders," she said over Allison's cries.

"She wants to go home, then she's going." he told her. "He can check her out tomorrow when I bring her back." he said. "She's going home and I don't care."

"Sir, with all due respect, you are already violating hospital policy by removing her from the bed," the nurse said a little sternly. "The only reason I'm even letting you hold is because that seems to be the only way she'll calm down, and she's still crying. So I suggest that you don't try to bend anymore rules, or I'll have to ask that you leave."

"Well if I have to leave, I'm taking her with me. You can't kick out her father."

"If you're being belligerent, then I can," the nurse challenged.

He let out a small chuckle. "I'm so sick of this hospital, I'm going to transfer her somewhere else then."

"It's not a bad hospital, sir. It's just the fact that you seem to not be able to follow rules."

Lacy opened the door on that last part and looked around. "What's going on?"

"Allison wants to go home and these people won't let her. She looks fine now and that's that. If she needs meds, then they can give it to us."

"Didn't they say that she had to stay here until tomorrow?" Lacy asked.

"Mommy," Allison's cries picked up as she heard 'stay here until tomorrow'. "I go home with you and daddy and Bam Bam. I don't wanna stay."

Lacy sighed and walked over to them, running a hand over the top of Ally's head. "I know, but they've gotta get you better. I promise that as soon as tomorrow gets here, I will pick you up and we can go home. Okay?"

"No," Ally continued to cry.

"Well I don't know what else to tell her to calm her down." he said.

Lacy sighed and pinched the bridge of her nose before looking back at Allison. "You want to feel better, right baby?"

Allison sniffled and nodded.

"But you can't feel better if you're crying, no?"

"N-n-no."

"So you got to calm down. We can't take you home today babe, and I'm really sorry. Would it help you if me and daddy stayed for a while?"

"Y-y-yes."

"Then we'll stay." he told her.

"And then we go home?" Ally asked with a whimper, since her cries were calming down.

"Yep." he nodded.

"Kay." She put her thumb in her mouth. Allison was under the impression that they'd stay at the hospital for a few more hours and then leave. Not stay at the hospital for a few hours and then leave her here. Or at least Lacy would. Didn't know about Phil.

"How do you feel?" Lacy asked Ally.

"Throat hurt."
