A Month Later

Physically, Lacy had been doing better. Her skin wasn't as discolored and her stitches had been out for about a week. They had to change the gauze on her head everyday, but other than that, she was fine. It almost looked as if she were sleeping.

Sleeping...

She still hadn't come out of her coma yet, and the doctor was very concerned about that. He shared his thoughts with Phil.

"Mr. Brooks, she hasn't shown any improvement. There's still activity in the brain, but it's been a month. She's not waking up. I know this is hard, but it might be best if you just... took her off of the life support and let nature take it's course."

Phil snorted and looked at the doctor. Yeah, okay. It had been a month since Lacy had been in the coma and he didn't leave her side. Sure, he went to check on the kids and brought them to the hospital to visit Lacy and they all made Get Well Soon cards for her and all that cute shit, but other than that...he was here. They have him a small cot to sleep on and everything. Only other time he went home was to shower and get clean clothes. Work, well he notified them what happened and he asked for time off. They allowed it and said that Punk was out injured for a couple of months. He wasn't going to give up on Lacy that easy. "Um, I think not." he said. "She'll wake up eventually, I'm not giving up on her so easily."

Well I have, the doctor *didn't* say. Instead, he nodded. "It's your choice... but between you and I, chances right now look to be from slim to anorexic right now." he walked out.

He watched as he left. "Man, fuck that doctor." he muttered to himself and looked at Lacy. "See that? They just give up on people so easily." he said as he shook his head and grabbed the comic he was reading.

About an hour had passed. Phil was still reading his comic.

"Even with my eyes closed," she mumbled hoarsely, coughing a little at how dry and sore her throat was, "I can tell you're readin' a comic."

That was all that came from her for 10, maybe 15 minutes. And then, she opened her eyes a bit, letting them adjust to the bright lights of the room. After they were somewhat adjusted to the light, she let her tired eyes focus on him.

That comic book? Yeah...Phil threw it to the groooooound ( Razz

) when he heard Lacy. Well actually, after he heard her. He thought his mind was playing tricks on him and thought he was hearing shit. Then he looked and saw that she had her eyes open and looked at him. "Lacy." he said letting out a sigh of relief as he got up and went by her, holding her hand and kissing the top of it. "You're finally awake." he said. "I was so worried."

"I'm so fucking stiff," she groaned and squeezed his hand lightly as he held it. "What happened?"

"Well my fucker of a brother attacked you and well....you ended up here. You've uh....been in a coma for the past month."

"I remember Mike... Coma?" she frowned, her voice still hoarse. She was out of it from the meds. "Coma?"

"You had a really bad concussion and well, it resulted into a coma after you fell asleep."

"That was... the wors'...sleep of my..." her voice started to drop off, and the light grip she had on his hand loosened. Her eyes closed again and she went silent.

"...Lacy?" he asked as he shook her a bit. "Wake up." he said and then pressed the button for the nurse.

The nurse came in a few minutes later. "Yes?" She eyed Phil quizzically. She was a little concerned because Lacy's buzzer never rang.

"She uh...she just woke up."

The nurse looked from Phil to Lacy, who still appeared to be unconscious. "She's not awake. That's not funny, Mr. Brooks."

"I---nevermind." he said as he shook his head. "I'm fine, I'll just read my comic book." he said as he picked it up from the floor.

"Dumdum." he muttered and sat back down in his chair to read his comic.

About thirty minutes later, Mary walked in, holding both kids hands. "Hey, honey. How is she?"

"Hi daddy," Ally waved. Brandon just went over to Lacy.

He looked up from his comic when he heard them come in. "Hey guys." he said as he picked up Ally and put her on his lap. "Uh, well she woke up today and nobody seems to believe me." he said. "The doctor suggested that I take her off of life support too."
