A Surprising Birthday

It was Ellie's twenty fourth birthday and she decided to stay home for the day and just relax. Even though she would be home, she still wanted to dress up a little, so she put on a simple dress and left her hair in curls. Walking downstairs to the kitchen, she went to get some water and well, a snack.

Allen was very glad Ellie was now living with him. It made things really easy and he got to see her all the time. He loved her so much and now that it was her birthday, he was going to give her a big birthday present. He had picked up a bouquet of 24 white, yellow, pink, and red roses because she was turning 24 years old.

He also had, in his other hand, a chocolate cake he picked up for her because what was a birthday without cake? Especially when she was pregnant and craving for chocolate. There was a special gift for her as a part of the cake too...so hopefully she would find it. Once he carefully moved things around, he opened the door and walked into the house, looking for Ellie.

After finishing snacking on a cookie and getting some water, Ellie made her way out of the kitchen and saw AJ there.

"Hey baby. What is all of that?" she chuckled.

He pouted a little. "You mean to tell me, I did all this for a girl who forgot her birthday was today?" he sighed as he set the cake down on the table gently and handed her the big bouquet of roses.

She laughed and shook her head as she took the roses.

"I didn't forget, thank you very much though." she grinned as she smelled the roses.

He smiled, kissing her forehead. He pulled out 2 candles, the number 2 and number 4. "And what would a birthday be without....cake~?" he asked, openign the cake box and showing the minnie mouse cake to her.

Inside the little box on top of the cake, though, was the real birthday gift. There was an engagement ring inside. He was planning to propose.

"Oh cake?" she smiled.

"God, I love you." she laughed as she saw the cake.

"It's calling my name...literally." she chuckled.

He laughed, going and getting 2 plates for them. "Go ahead...give in." he smiled, leaning in and kissing her. "I love you too..." he said against her lips.

She kissed him back and chuckled.

"I know you do." she smirked.

"Oh crap wait, should we sing Happy Birthday or something?" she asked.

"Of course." he smiled, putting the 2 candles on the cake. He went and grabbed the matches. He lit the 2 candles. "Okay..." he said as he sang the cheesy song to her, granted he was a horrible singer, but he still sang to her because he loved her and would do anything for her.

She clapped for him.

"Very well done." she said as she shook her head in amusement, then made a wish and blew her candles out.

She started to cut the cake and handed AJ his piece and started to cut her piece as well.

Thinking that the box was frosting, she was going to take some for her slice, but noticed it was actually a box. Curiously, she set her plate down and opened it up, as she did so, she took out the ring that was inside and gasped, feeling shocked and excited as well.

"A-Allen, what is this?" she asked, stuttering as she turned to face him.

He blushed. "Th-thanks." he said, clearing his throat as he took his slice of cake from her.

Then...she found the ring. He took a deep breath as he took the ring from her. He went down on one knee in front of her and took her hand. "Ellie...I know...I know that we've both been through so much together. I love you with all my heart...you've seen me and been with me through my worst...and you haven't given up on me. It's because of our love that...we're going to have a child now...when everyone told us we couldn't. We've gone against the odds and we're on top of the world. I love you so much Ellie...I guess what I'm trying to say is...will you marry me?" he asked a bit nervously.

She took in his words and let it all sink it. This was definitely happening and she wasn't dreaming at all. Ellie didn't think it would be so soon, but she was extremely happy and knew that she really wanted this. She was in so much shock that she couldn't even move or try to speak as she opened her mouth to talk. Holding onto the counter and looking down at AJ, Ellie just nodded excitedly as she felt herself tearing up.

He smiled, slipping the ring onto her finger. "I love you Ellie...so much." he said, standing up and wrapping his arms around her and pulling her in close to hug and kiss her again.

She chuckled a little as she kissed and hugged him back.

"I love you too." she grinned.

"I think I'm still in shock though." she giggled, then looked down at her stomach curiously as she felt something.

"Well I'll be here to make sure you know it's true." he smiled, and then looked down with her. "What's wrong? Are you alright? Are you in pain?" he asked worriedly.

She winced a little and just chuckled.

"No, I just...I think our baby wants to join in on the fun."

"You mean...the baby kicked?" he asked, really surprised and even happier now.

She laughed.

"Yes. This baby is definitely going to be just like you, it's a really strong kick." she said as she took his hand and placed it on her belly, so he could feel it.

He felt the kick and almost teared up. "Oh my God...this is...wow..." he said, in awe that their child was inside of her. "I'm so happy right now..."

She grinned at his reaction.

"Me too. I'm extremely happy."

He pulled her close and kissed her forehead, smiling widely.

She giggled a little.

"First a cake, then a proposal and the baby kicking. I think this is the best birthday ever."

"Well I'd hope so." he smiled. "Now...what shall we do?" he asked unable to quit grinning.

"Well we can set up the baby's crib orrrrr...." she said with a small smirk as she kissed him softly.

"You can celebrate your engagement with the future Mrs. Jones." she said smiling innocently.
